Always follow the written safety instructions of the tool manufacturer. Cortex for Decking is designed specifically to attach composite or PVC deck boards 1 to 1 ½” thick to wood framing members only. Do not use the screws supplied with Cortex for Trim, which are gray in color, to install decking.
How do you back out a cortex screw?
Removing the Cortex Plug and Screw Using a standard #1 driver bit (not the Cortex setting tool), engage driver bit deep into screw recess prior to backing out, then reverse fastener out slowly. Cortex Tip: An 18V impact drill can offer best results when removing a fastener.
Can you screw into TimberTech decking?

What screws to use for PVC?
Self-tapping machine or wood screws are recommended. It is recommended that holes be pre-drilled for screws being inserted as self-drilling screws do not work well.
