Do I need starter clips for composite decking?
When you are installing your composite decking boards, you will need the clips and fasteners. You will first lay the joists’ boards (the joists is the frame that supports your composite decking and lifts it from the ground) or substructure.
How many Trex starter clips do I need?
You will need 0.75 clips for every lineal foot of decking. For example, 40 feet of decking would require 30 start clips. NOTE: When using hidden fasteners (both start and connector clips), one must be used on every joist.

Do you leave gaps between composite decking?
As temperatures fluctuate, composite deck boards will naturally experience thermal expansion and contraction. That’s why the board ends should never be installed tight against one another. There should always be a slight gap.

According to ambient temperature allow a 5 – 7mm gap between end of composite deck board and the fascia.
Can you screw down Trex decking?
Yes, you can screw down composite decking. There are two types of synthesized decking being sold in the market. One way in which you can install a composite deck to the frame is by using screws. Screwing down composite decks with screws has been a method of installing plastic-wood decking ever since.
Can you screw through composite decking?
The answer is yes for a solid composite decking (must be pre-drill and must check with manufacture). You can not drill or screw through a hollow composite deck as the screw will become loose and rise in time . Like the usual wooden decking boards, you can also screw down a solid composite decking.

How to install composite decking with deck clips?
On the inside edge of the starter board, install deck clips at every joist into the groove along the whole length of the board. Slide the next board up against the clips. Hold the board tightly, putting pressure against the clips. If available, use a board locking tool to help you hold the board tight.
