The 1.5 L, 1.6 L and 1.8 L engines were from the EA827 family. In this engine the valves were operated by bucket tappets. The EA827s were mounted tilted 15° rearwards. The car was originally available with two transmission options; a four-speed manual and a three-speed automatic.
