Eleven buildings and several lanes are now under the water. Once the decision about the location had been made, work began on creating the 100′ high, 1,800 metre long dam, with pipes underneath to enable the River Bewl to continue to flow, and on constructing the overflow and draw-off towers.

The round reservoir route is 13 miles. Walking – allow 6 hrs; Cycling – The unmade path has become muddy and in order to prevent further damage unsurfaced sections are now closed. You can cycle 1.75 miles in each direction from the Bewl Water car park on surfaced tracks – this gives you a total of 7 miles of traffic free cycling.
