Is Perth Library free?
Membership at the State Library of Western Australia is free for all residents of Western Australia. As a member you can borrow books and other items from our collection and access a range of eBooks and other electronic resources, many that you can use at home.
How do I borrow a book from Perth Library?
To borrow eBooks and Audio Books you need to use an online service, two of our favourites available from the City of Perth Library are Libby and Borrow Box. The Libby app is our recommendation to get you started because it is simple to use and has access to an extensive catalogue of both ebooks and audio books.

Cold food and covered or bottled drinks are permitted (no strong smelling hot food). Patrons cannot use the Library or its facilities for carrying on a business unless the City has granted a permit to do so. A permit will not be approved for this purpose. How do you borrow ebooks from the library?
Borrowing Kindle Books from your library
- Open your library’s digital collection (you can find it using www.overdrive.com).
- Find a Kindle Book to borrow.
- Select Borrow.
- Choose a lending period for the title (if available).
- After you borrow the title, select Read now with Kindle.
Can you check out library books without a card?
It may be possible to check out an item without a library card if you come to a branch of the library in person with a valid photo ID that shows current address. If you have the Find Yourself app on your phone, you can access the app, click on My Account, and then select Digital Library Card.
How do I return a library book online?
Go to your Bookshelf. Touch the plus symbol to the right of the title you want to return. Tap “Return/Delete.” Choose whether to return, return and delete, or simply delete the title.

When do I have to renew my library card in Perth?
From Tuesday 5 March 2019 the Library will automatically renew your library items (if possible). The Library will send you an email or letter with details of items that could not be renewed, and any items that were automatically renewed will be listed with the new due back date. You can reserve items that are on loan or on the shelf.
