Microsoft is giving up on physical retail. Today the company announced plans to permanently close all Microsoft Store locations in the United States and around the world, except for four locations that will be “reimagined” as experience centers that no longer sell products.
Why are Microsoft stores still closed?
The decision seems to be made after Microsoft decided to temporarily close stores in March due to the spread of the coronavirus. “The company will also reimagine spaces that serve all customers, including operating Microsoft Experience Centers in London, NYC, Sydney, and Redmond campus locations.”
Will Microsoft reopen their stores?
However, now just shy of a year later, Microsoft is getting back into the physical retail store game and will reopen three of its original Experience Centers. Basically, Microsoft will go back to selling products at actual brick-and-mortar stores.
